Imagine you are in a darkened theater and on stage are the actors. Behind the actors you can see the scenery. Down in front of the stage, in what is called the pit, is an orchestra and a conductor. As the orchestra plays, the actors on stage do not speak their lines they sing them! Opera is the combination of drama and music. Like drama, opera embraces the entire spectrum of theatrical elements: dialogue, acting, costumes, scenery and action, but it is the sum of all these elements, combined with music, which defines the art form called opera. Operatic dramas are usually serious, but there are several comic operas and funny scenes in tragic operas. The music is usually complicated and difficult to sing well. Sex somehow to leads as being a stress reliever, or a way to succumb her problems. A teenager might think pregnancy is a way to cope up with problems. They are not supported by their family so they think getting themselves pregnant might bother their parents. It’s their rebellious resort to show how careless their parents are. In this case, the teenager feels sorry for herself. With the aforementioned causes, teenage pregnancy is far from being impossible. Now let’s consider the effect of it. According to statistics, about 85% of pregnancies are unplanned which in any population can increase the risk for problems. The biggest risk for teen mothers is delaying prenatal care or in worst case, will receive no care at all. The reason for lack of prenatal care is usually delayed pregnancy testing denial or even fear telling others about pregnancy. Nutritional counseling can be a large portion of prenatal care, usually done by a doctor, or a midwife, sometimes a nutritionist. This counseling will usually include information about prenatal vitamins, folic acid and the dos and don’ts of eating and drinking. Lack of proper nutrition can lead to problems like anemia, low weight gain, etc. Another problem facing teen mothers is the use of drugs and alcohol, including cigarette smoking. No amount of any of these substances is safe for use in pregnancy. In fact, their use can harm pregnancy even further increasing the likelihood of premature birth and other complications. Premature birth and low birth weight create a wealth of their own problems, including brain damage, physical disabilities and more. The potentially lengthy hospital stay and increased risk of health problems for these babies leads to more stress on the teen mother. While facing the cruel realities of teen pregnancy, this is not the picture that has to be painted. Teen mothers are perfectly capable of having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby with the proper nutrition, early prenatal care and good screening for potential problems, the majority of these potential problems will not come to existence. While some tend to think that you can’t teach a teen mother anything about her body or baby, it’s really a ridiculous notion. Many of the teen mothers who take active roles in their care do go on to have healthy babies, despite the other hardships, frustrations, and difficulties that they will face in their future lives. Support and guidance from their families and communities is a must for the young new family to be successful and developed. However, teenage pregnancy can be prevented through self discipline and proper counseling. A life would be at stake if the teenager tends to break the righteous way. With discipline and dignity, she can avoid doing so. Education is also a powerful tool for a good strong mind. Through education, a teenager is more knowledgeable and well-learned about the pros and cons of getting into early pregnancy. In fact, there are no pros. It will only spoil your happy teenage life. Your life as a single young woman will be limited as soon as you have a child. Bearing a child is a lifetime obligation, so one must be precautious enough so as to avoid mistakes. One more risk to consider is the father of the child. Teenage usually gets impregnated by her co-teens. So denial stage is possible in this case. The prospect father might not accept the child and won’t consider the child as his own. He’s still young, and not yet ready for obligation. So in this scenario, all the pity feelings will be on the teen mom. Abortion is then a tendency in this stage. The worst scenario is the so-called â€Å"suicidal attempt†. Females who undergo this stage usually think of abortion as the best resort. This however is just initial reaction. They are afraid of their parent’s reaction, and afraid of their future, and the child’s. They would start taking abortive chemicals to get rid of the fetus, but this would only cause harm to the baby and to the mother as well. An experienced aborted teen mother may lead to hard up getting pregnant again. It will also result to some abnormalities and frenzy feelings and actions. One can’t afford of these consequences so it’s a must to have a precaution on how to avoid teenage pregnancy, either abstinence or use of contraceptives and such methods. With proper education and occasional guidance counseling, along with fear and self-discipline, one might avoid teenage pregnancy. Just think of the consequences and one might step backward. Ethical Dilemmas in social work practice free essay sample

In every profession: we as the professionals are faced with ethical dilemmas. An ethical dilemma is a conflict of moral principles, occurring when a person is faced in certain situations, where adhering particularly principal might result in the violation of the other (Buzzle. com, 2014). In the Department of Education (DOE) we identify the students and families of the New York City public school system as our clients. Our families and students develop a strong relationships with staff, which is normal. Students spend 181 days of the year in school with educational, clerical and clinical staff (schools. nyc. gov, 2014). As a family worker of the DOE I am faced with ethical dilemmas that force me to check self and take a professional stance towards a situation. Dilemmas at the your workplaces can sometimes be the hardest decision to make in life, however as a professional we must take the proper steps to move further and not jeopardize our license and/ or career. As a family worker of the School Base Support Team, I have the most parent contact due to the many hats I wear in my position. At the department of education I take on many roles and help out in different sectors of the educational system. I build relations with parents, grandparents, foster parents, service providers, outside case manager, workers of the Administration for Children Services (ACS) and our students. In building these relationships, we as staff have a lot of outside commonalities (i. e. social clubs, mutual friends, shared interest and come from the same geographical community). In my position, I have an advantage over a lot of staff. I come from the community that I work in, I have observed many of the children that enroll into my school grow and develop inside and outside of the school setting. Most of the children, that attend this educational institute, parents have grown up with me in the same community and we share the same cultural background as well as upbringing. This advantage can have its ups and downs, especially when faced with ethical dilemmas. I am the person whom makes the initial contact with the parent in different situations: before an evaluation is started, when attendance is a lacking, when a special education student is involved in a situation, when outreach is needed for specified reasons and when Office of Children and Family Services needs to be notified. Being such an asset to the educational institute and the community sometimes put me in a position where ethical dilemmas can occur. An ethical dilemma that I can remember taking place during my second year in my position as a Family Worker/ Clerical Associate. I was well aware of the basic codes of ethics and as a young lady, who resided in the community where 97% of the student body also resided, I put a lot of things in perspective before working in my community. I limited my social network friends, became very humble, and made it clear to the parents that I had prior relationships during my childhood that â€Å"my job is my job†¦ its business! † There was now a new relationship that was forming as an administrator/ family worker in the educational institute where the families are our clients. As a familiar face from my community, this forced me to reflect on dual relationships as discussed in â€Å"Beyond the code of ethics, Part I†, it leaves an open door to necessary exception, so keeping a strictly professional relationship helps me avoid dilemmas (Freud Krug, 2002). Relationships in the field are very important and can be the drive for change. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) core value of importance of human relationships ethical principal looks at the importance of the relationship, building stronger relationships with meaning to promote, restore, maintain, and better wellbeing of individuals, families, social groups, organizations and communities (NASW, 2008). I always kept my relationships with parents and families strictly professional to avoid any mishaps or miscommunications. As a Family worker I assist with the monitoring of daily attendance and when attendance is alarming it is my responsibility to follow specific protocol before reporting a case of educational neglect due to excessive absences from school. Ms. SmithX, A single parent of two, works a full-time job and has a hard time getting her school aged daughter to school regularly or if she does attend, getting her to school on time. I am very familiar with the parent of this child, she was currently very involved in the school before taking on this new job that has her working long and hard hours. I grew up with this parent, Ms. SmithX, on the same street of my neighborhood, we played together as kids, attended the same schools and even hung out together our late teen years. When this student attendance became alarming, I took the proper steps to alert this parent of the issue of the attendance as well as finding ways to help the problem as a professional. My thoughts at first being that I knew her for a long time- would she be responsive and proactive in fixing the issue before ACS got involved? I’ve sent home a notice to meet with Ms. SmithX to discuss the issue of attendance via mail as well as with the child and reached out via phone numerous times. I was then forced to make a home visit. This family resided out of the school zone and many option were at hand. A home visit was conducted and as the parent opened the door she was relieved to see it was me, a familiar face, who was going to assist with finding a resolution for this issue. I began the home visit by re-introducing myself and the reason for the visit. Ms. SmithX was well aware and seem very compassionate about getting help. Ms. SmithX was given many options: busing transportation, advocacy for schedule change at the job, and even an automatic transfer to a closer school in their zone. Ms. SmithX was scheduled to come in for a meeting a few days after the home visit. Upon exiting the home, I spoke to Ms. SmithX 1 to 1 and I express to her in a professional manner â€Å"this is my career and my job, nothing personal I am just trying to help you as a parent to our student. † Ms. SmithX was very clear on the process and the consequences if she did not follow through with process on adjusting the issue. By the looks of things it look like Ms. SmithX was overwhelmed. Ms. SmithX never showed up and 3 attempts was made after that to try and get her in office to discuss the concerns of attendance, academics and the possible chance of her being reported to OCFS if change does not occur. In following through my supervisor was aware of the prior relationship and ask if it would be difficult for me to follow through on this process due to the parent being incompliant of the resources put in to play to help with her situation. I express to my supervisor that I was going to do this professionally and ethically and I knew it was time for me to make the decision. It was very hard because I had faith that Ms. SmithX was going to make that change. The call to OCFS was made and the report went as far as a removal. The feeling that came over me, made me feel as if I was in a tug-of-war with myself. I knew that this would hurt Ms. SmithX but I also knew she was going to get the help that she needed. To watch someone I grew up with, from the same cultural and educational background, fail and lose her children hurt me to my core but if I didn’t act immediately the situation could have got worse. As a social worker-in-training, the deontological perspective was the bases for reasoning in this case. I acted as, if it was my duty to make sure this child was in a safe place and made the decision I felt was morally right. Advantages and Disadvantages of Single-Sex Classrooms Single-Sex Classrooms Imagine attending an all boys or all girls school while you were growing up. For some people this was reality, but for most people they have always attended a coeducational school. There are many opinions on single sex classrooms, as the topic arises in areas as a potential solution to enhancing students performances. According to LynNell Hancock the author of, A Room of Their Own, critics worry that single sex classrooms will create more gender inequality and set us back further in time by creating unfairness in the classroom(Hancock, 1996).[1] However even though some may believe it will create a set back in gender equality, having single-sex classrooms may be exactly what America needs to boost international test scores and students performances.Although many critics think single sex classrooms are insufficient because they separate the sexes, they are efficient because there are many ways that they enhance student’s performances by focusing on gender needs and eliminating distractions.[2][3][4]Currently America is seeing a drop in the youth’s test scores in school and are seeking out options for solutions to these low scores. This poor performance has led to calls for changes in public school education. According to the Article Boys and Girls learn differently! A Guide for teachers and parents by Michael Gurian,Patricia Henley, and Terry Trueman, one solution the country may be thinking of to bring up the low scores in classrooms could be single sex classrooms (2001).The reason for this is because the country wants to see how single-sex classrooms would affect the youth’s scores and change their performance in school overall.For our young ones this may mean they will see less coeducational classrooms and more single sex classrooms being implemented around the country and possibly in their own school. Some believe the reason our youth generation are receiving such low scores is possibly because of the social pressure they face each and e veryday in the classroom. According to Peter Simon the author of, Single Sex Classrooms minimized Distractions at Two Buffalo Schools, Simons claims that boys and girls going through adolescents need their own rooms for teaching, so they can focus on school more and not just on each other(Simon,2008). For kids going through adolescence the only thing they fear is being judged and their self image. So being in front of the opposite sex and performing or presenting can create a lot of pressure and damper their scores. This is one of the many reasons people feel that single-sex classrooms are a very effective way to stop physical and mental distractions. Although many feel that single-sex classrooms can decrease distractions, there are many different views people have when it comes to this topic. Smithers and Robinson the authors of, [5][6][7]The paradox of single-sex and coeducational schooling,had conducted a study of reviewing girls and boys together in classrooms and separately to see how it affects the students(2006).They looked at studies from New Zealand, the U.S., Ireland, Canada,the United Kingdom, and Australia and from their findings the two authors had concluded that single sex classrooms does not bring an advantage or disadvantage to the students or the schools. [8][9][10]This is an example of a point of view where they may feel that single-sex and coeducational classrooms make no difference because it all depends on the students in the study and how the teachers are also making a difference for these students. In this study they found that they believe both single-sex classrooms and coeducational classrooms have advantages and disadvantages but neither is considered better or worse. Single-sex classrooms do have their advantages to a child’s performance. In respect to the previous claim there is a beneficial outcome from single sex classrooms. For example at Houghton Academy in Buffalo, New York in a single-sex classroom the amount of students who had passed the states eighth-grade math exam went from 30.8% of students to 60% of students due to the single sex classrooms implemented into the school(Peter,2008). Also there was a rise in english too. The passing rate improved from 28.6% to 40% of the students passing(Peter,2008). This means because of the single-sex classroom the test scores alone improved almost 50% for both subjects.That is a big improvement from coeducational to single-sex classrooms to show that they can make a difference in students’ performances. Many proponents of single-sex education believe that separating boys and girls increases students’ achievement and academic interest. One of those proponents being â€Å"girl power† and encouraging girls to participate more in subjects that are seen as more masculine. According to the article, Still failing at fairness: How gender bias cheats girls and boys in school and what we can do about it, by David Sadker and Karen Zittleman, teachers and schools worry that subjects seen as more masculine decrease young girl’s interests in pursuing these subjects because they feel intimidated(Zittleman and Sadker,2009)[11][12][13]. This means that when girls are in coeducational classrooms they feel less interested in the traditionally masculine courses such as mathematics, technology, engineering, and science because the boys make the classroom setting seem as if it is very competitive and do not allow for girls to participate as much. Author Erin Pahlke explains this in her article, The Effects of Single-Sex Compared With Coeducational Schooling on Students’ Performance and Attitudes,she claims that sin gle sex classrooms empower girls because it allows them to enjoy those masculine classes such as math and science without being intimidated by the boys and feeling that they are in a masculine based classroom(Pahlke,2014). This shows that girls have better confidence and can build their performance in mathematics and science when in single-sex classrooms. Although girls feel more comfortable separated from boys in the classes seen as more masculine, boys may not always benefit as much as girls. Nancy Protheroe author of,Single Sex Classrooms, claims that some teachers explain that they feel that boys feel uncomfortable in this type of classroom setting and that teaching in a single sex classroom of all boys is a demanding job for the teachers(Protheroe, 2009). One of those reasons may be because boys always like to compete with one another so the classroom is just a big competition between those students.This shows that even though one gender may feel more comfortable alone,that boy s may not feel as comfortable, and may not be able to perform better because of the pressure they feel in a masculine based classroom. One factor that can affect whether the student’s performance enhances in a single-sex classroom is the teacher. Some teachers may be willing to adapt to the new single-sex classroom. On the other hand some teachers may not want to teach single-sex classrooms so if they are being forced to teach a class they do not want then the children’s performance will suffer because the teacher doesn’t want to give 100%. For example Michael Gurian and Kathy Stevens explain in their writing,Single Sex Classrooms are Succeeding, that if teachers feel uncomfortable teaching a single sex classroom and feel that it goes against their beliefs they have the option to say no(Gurian Stevens, 2005). This means that if a teacher does not feel that single-sex classrooms is the right idea for the children then they will they have the option to say no. If the teacher can not have a say in the decision and is forced to teach single-sex classrooms that is when you will see no benefits comin g from the children’s performance because of the teachers lack of want to be there. Although for those teachers who would like to teach single-sex classrooms there are training sessions they can take. According to Michael Gurian, Kathy Stevens,Patricia Henley, and Terry Trueman,the authors of,Single Sex Classrooms are Succeeding,there are multiple trainings that teachers have already attended through the National Association for Public Single-Sex Education and the Gurian Institute, so that the teachers can be taught and be aware of the naturally different ways that boys and girls learn in the classroom.(Gurian, Stevens, Henley, Trueman 2009). This means for those teachers who would like to experience teaching in single-sex classrooms that they have a chance to be taught how so that there will be a positive atmosphere in the classroom. Overall the country is trying to find an effective way to help improve students’ scores and performances in school. Some schools are tr ying to implement single sex classrooms. However in single sex classrooms it does not just depend on the children’s willingness to participate. The teachers willingness and positive attitude in the classroom will play big role in how the students’ grades will improve. For those who are in single sex classrooms it will take away their social pressure and hormonal distractions for adolescents. It will also help girls succeed more in masculine seen classrooms because they will not feel the social pressure that those programs are just for boys. The feeling of not being judged or pressured helps students’ scores dramatically because while growing up kids are so worried about self image and not embarrassing themselves that they sometimes forget how important school really is. O'Neill's Debate on Education Students are not getting the Basic Knowledge needed today due to the poor upbringing and lack of respect for the need of education. In O'Neills editorial his reason for this was because the students as a whole did not want their ignorance exposed. However, he forgot to include that teachers are just as ignorant as the student. Give a teacher the same test and see hoe much they remember about what they we taught some odd number of years ago. It's not safe to assume that because a person can't remember who the 31st president was, that they don't have the basics of gobble history . How many teachers know the basics, if asked on the spot. Lets Examine another quote from O'Neill's editorial in his opine Charie Chaplin a classic movie star, and that because when asked about him no one know who he was, Well , if the students didn't watch old TV shows on the late night TV channels then how would they know of Charlie? They don't cover a class in classic television. There fore that question would be unfair to pit on the test. O'Neill's just assume that everyone is raised in the same back ground as him. Charles Darwin did not create gravity but he did believe in evolution. The concept that we were originated from organs to monkeys then humans. In church we stray away from that kind of talk "that is the devil trying to score your mind" that's what they would say. O'Neill says "I broke the rules of this time-honored gam when I presented my English-composition students with an 86 question test the first day of class." Know that all students think of doing the first day of class. Concentrating on a 86 question test is a common students retinal. The student always for every question read it through out and back and forward. O'Neill told the students that the students that it wouldn't be graded. Any time you tell students that, automatically that means just fill it out. As long as it get done. You can't go by a test like that for the simple fact that there is know evidence each and every one gave it a true try. Sure they finished the test but did they even read it. When students in the hall where stopped and asked to fill out the questions stated on the handout the results where the same. Charles Darwin invented electricity. Jay opened the negotiations by demanding the British recognize American independence. In addition, the Americans pressed for territorial control of all North American frontier lands east of the Mississippi River, except for British territories in Canada and Spanish territory in Florida. In the resulting Treaty of Paris, signed on September 3, 1783, Britain acknowledged the United States as an independent nation. Lands secured through the treaty essentially doubled the new nation’s size. However, many disputed issues, such as control of regions along the Canadian border and British occupation of forts on U.S.-controlled territory in the Great Lakes area remained unresolved. These and several other post-revolution issues, specifically with France, would eventually be addressed by another treaty negotiated by Jay- now known as Jay’s Treaty- signed in Paris on November 19, 1794. The Constitution and the Federalist Papers During the Revolutionary War, America had functioned under a loosely crafted agreement among the colonial-era governments of the 13 original states called the Articles of the Confederation. After the Revolution, however, weaknesses in the Articles of the Confederation revealed the need for a more comprehensive governing document- the U.S. Constitution. While John Jay did not attend the Constitutional Convention in 1787, he strongly believed in a stronger central government than that created by the Articles of the Confederation, which granted most governmental powers to the states. During 1787 and 1788, Jay, along with Alexander Hamilton and James Madison, wrote a series of essays widely published in newspapers under the collective pseudonym â€Å"Publius† advocating the ratification of the new Constitution. Later collected into a single volume and published as the Federalist Papers, the three Founding Fathers successfully argued for the creation of a strong federal government that serves the national interest while also reserving some powers to the states. Today, the Federalist Papers are often referred to and cited as an aid to interpreting the intent and application of the U.S. Constitution. First Chief Justice of the Supreme Court In September 1789, President George Washington offered to appoint Jay as Secretary of State, a position which would have continued his duties as Secretary of Foreign Affairs. When Jay declined, Washington offered him the title of Chief Justice of the United States, a new position which Washington called â€Å"the keystone of our political fabric.† Jay accepted and was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on September 26, 1789. Smaller than today’s Supreme Court, which is made up of nine justices, the chief justice, and eight associate justices, the John Jay Court had only six justices, the chief justice and five associates. All of the judges on that first Supreme Court were appointed by Washington. Jay served as chief justice until 1795, and while he personally wrote the majority decisions on only four cases during his six-year tenure on the Supreme Court, he greatly influenced the future rules and procedures for the rapidly developing U.S. federal court system.   Anti-Slavery Governor of New York Jay resigned from the Supreme Court in 1795 after being elected as the second governor of New York, an office he would hold until 1801. During his tenure as governor, Jay also ran unsuccessfully for President of the United States in 1796 and 1800. Though Jay, like many of his fellow Founding Fathers, had been a slaveholder, he championed and signed a controversial bill in 1799 outlawing slavery in New York. In 1785, Jay had helped found and served as president of the New York Manumission Society, an early abolitionist organization that arranged boycotts of merchants and newspapers involved in or supporting the slave trade, and provided free legal assistance for free black persons who had been claimed or kidnapped as slaves. Later Life and Death In 1801, Jay retired to his farm in Westchester County, New York. Marriage, Family, and Religion Jay married Sarah Van Brugh Livingston, the eldest daughter of the New Jersey Governor William Livingston, on April 28, 1774. Sarah and the children often accompanied Jay on his diplomatic missions, including trips to Spain and Paris, where they lived with Benjamin Franklin. Learning Styles and Theories Essay There are multiple learning styles and theories that apply to individuals in multiple ways. The VARK learning style that my analysis revealed is read/write according to the questionnaire by Fleming (2001-2014). This categorization of my learning style compliments me well and I definitely agree that actually seeing the information spelled out in front of me allows me to better understand the information. The two learning theories that relate to my VARK learning style are behaviorism and constructivism. Behaviorism focusing on a clear goal with an automatic response and constructivism affording me the ability to problem solve. Being an andragogical learner I’m able to apply what I’ve learned during my pedagogical phase to my educational experiences. Let’s take a closer look at what behaviorism entails. Behaviorism focuses on the observable changes in behavior. Moreover, it’s the act of doing something new several times until it’s second nature. A prime example is while completing schoolwork the instructor provides continuous positive reinforcement; depending upon the grade the student will constantly modify their behavior until they receive positive reinforcement. According to Watson (n.d.) behaviorism’s goal is to explain relationships between precedent conditions (stimuli), behavior (responses), and consequences (reward, punishment, or neutral effect). Without the positive reinforcement the learned responses that the student exhibits will diminish. My VARK learning style relates to behaviorism by me receiving positive reinforcement through written praise; additionally, with good grades I will continue performing at the same level. Once I’ve developed an understanding of how a task needs to be accomplished I will tailor my actions towards that behavior to continue to receive that positive reinforcement and it becomes second nature. Along with observable changes in behavior, one-step further looks into constructivism and it’s aim on brain-based learning. Constructivism relies on what the learner already knows and the understanding of the subject at hand. Moreover, building new ideas or concepts are based upon current knowledge and past experiences and amplifies when actively engaged. According to Brunner (n.d.) the three stages of  intellectual development are enactive, iconic, and symbolic. Enactive is learning through actions on physical objects and the outcomes, iconic learning is through models and pictures, and lastly symbolic learning is the ability to think in abstract terms (Brunner, n.d.). Constructivism relates to my VARK learning style in the aspect that learning is ongoing and by reading and writing I’m constantly improving my skills and perception. There can be multiple interpretations of an excerpt of literature, therefore by having someone facilitate the learning process with the knowledge of my baseline understanding of the topic at hand that person can build upon it. Thus, my VARK learning style suggests I write out words repeatedly or read them to myself, which goes along with reviewing information multiple times, and learning takes time according to the principles of constructivism. As an adult learner my identified VARK learning style affects my educational pursuit positively. Falling into andragogical learning realm I have more experiences and therefore I can apply those experiences while learning. Adult learners take on the responsibility to be self-directed, and have a wealth of experience that enables them to transform information into meaningful cognitive and reality-based applications (Minter, 2011, p. 9). In retrospect the pedagogical concept requires the instructor to be more directive, placing students in a more passive role, and that students don’t have the motivation or maturity to be self-directed learners (Minter, 2011, p. 9). Applying active learning concepts such as reading and writing allows me to actively be categorized under the andragogical concept. Moreover, by writing and speaking the words to myself and reflecting to solve problems I’m practicing the concept of self-directed and problem-centered aspects of andragogical learni ng. Therefore, I will be able to apply my VARK learning style to complete my educational endeavors and continue on my path of success. The three learning theories of Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism can be applied to any of the four learning styles (visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic). I feel that we cannot generalize that a student will be classified solely under one learning style, they will adapt and apply what is more appropriate given the information or circumstances.  The learning theory used depends upon the learning situation. Being identified as an andragogical learner I’m able to apply life experiences, need to know, relevance of the subject matter and how it applies to me, and use my motivation to further my educational goals with the guidance of instructors that are more like facilitators. Answer: I think my assessor has been fair and just all through my course and her help has been invaluable in my progression. Her guidance and advice as well as support shaped my studies and gave me a solid foundation to work from. She has helped me to achieve so much through the last year without her I would not have come this far and achieved the levels I have. When I look back to my tmas I can see through the assessors comments that I had made some careless mistakes. E.g. forgetting to use capital letters and forgetting set dictionary on UK English, these I have tried to fix and have worked hard to improve on this. My referencing was nonexistent when I started this course and I needed so much work for me to improve, but thanks to my assessors comments I gained a better understanding what references I can and cannot use e.g. discussion groups and have changed the referencing in my essays to more suitable references. In addition, I needed to work on my paragraphs as I had a tendency to use too short a paragraphs. This can be seen in the extract I have selected below from my assessors comments. You`ve made many of these point in your essay, but because you haven`t drawn them together in proper paragraphs, the thrust of your argument is rather dissipated.  Ã‚  Ã‚  I would advise that for future assignments you write the essay, and then look at short paragraphs (if you have any) and see whether they need to stand alone or whether they can tidily be combined with another short paragraph to create a new, longer one.  Ã‚  But don`t go to the opposite extreme and have paragraphs which go on for pages, which is my particular fault and one which my tutors used to complain about!  Ã‚  You also need to watch the format for references and Bibliography, as I`ve indicated on your script. However, through learning essay planning I soon learnt how to structure each paragraph to include the correct information needed and they started to form proper paragraphs and became less like bullet points. In addition, one of my other greatest strengths was the fact I could find the information I needed but my greatest flaw was I could not justify the key points. Therefore, I had to spend a lot of time trying to learn how to justify my key points better and I have to some extent rectified this as can be seen by my rising grades. I have made use of information that is included in the assessors comments on each tma to analyse what I have been doing wrong and used this information to help plan and improve on each subsequent tma. As to my essay plans they still needs work so I decided on doing a 10 point after this course in writing fiction this should give me more practice before next 60 point course and hopefully by the time I do the next 60 point course I should have rectified this problem. After reviewing tma06 I Have found a major area I need to concentrate on In the past essays I have cut material to get down to the word limit. I have found this is causing my essays not to read or flow correctly this may work for smaller essays but for larger it effects my grades. I am trying in the future to put rules in place that if I exceeded my word limits by large amount instead of cut and past exercise I rework my plan and rewrite essay to the new plan hoping this resolves this flaw. I have enjoyed this course so much when I started the course it was because I wanted to learn structure and improve my writing skills and AA100 was compulsory course for degree I wanted. Now I am nearly finished I look back and realise I have awakened a love in both arts and history I hope I can use these new loves in my books. In addition, I want to move into the study of the history the goal for my masters is to combine my love of books with my love of history and to research or study history of writing throughout the ages.

I'm sure both of these events will be a real inspiration to us over the years. Now, there are some thankyous that I’d like to convey on behalf of my wife and I.
